[It's a little weird, doing this. Not the applying for a tech-related entry level position in a corporate business on the back of a giant turtle part - though that's fifty shades of weird by itself already - but the talking to a guy he kind of sort of knows who could probably squish him in five seconds flat part.
Still, a job's a job and Scott's not gonna back out of anything without at least trying it first. He's obtained the appropriate names and console numbers, and now he's sitting in front of his console fiddling with a screwdriver in his hands.]
Hi, I'm looking for a Bruce Banner?
[The only good thing about using a console is that he can't become an ant pancake if things go hideously wrong.]
[Bruce doesn't turn anyone into pancakes, Scott, don't be silly. He works hard to prevent that.
And for now he isn't thinking anything suspicious in any case. There could be a million reasons someone would contact him, as much as he's unused to it; he's undeniably getting more well known around the turtle, and he isn't really sure how to prevent that.
He might sound slightly reluctant when he answers, but he does answer.] That's me. [And that's it. Waiting for this guy to explain what he wants.]
[That's a very uncharacteristic tone for Jack, and Bruce pauses for a beat before answering, registering it and wondering whether he has cause to worry.]
[Costigan spontaneously contacts Bruce to meet for a quick tidbit. He shares that he has found out it's the Emperor who brings people here herself. Of perhaps most interest is that some people forgetting their time is a mistake in the technique used to bring people; it's unintentional collateral damage.]

[Bruce is the last person Hayley expects to be sending this message, but he's the only one standing by process of elimination and it actually worries her a little just how few 'friends' she really has. Clark and Lois would have come first, normally, but the recent events with the rock have her trusting them a little less and Bruce is the only one she thinks can actually protect her, whom she trusts not to tell anyone about her request, and whom she's confident won't try anything. Not certain, but confident.]
Hey. [A beat.] You know I would never ask this if it wasn't super important.
[She pauses awkwardly. This message is clearly an uncomfortable and difficult one for her.]
Could I maybe stay in your suite tonight? Just for the one night. I'll sleep on the floor with my taser and I won't bother you, but I just.. [She trails off.] Please.
[The fear in her voice is meant to be hidden, but it's still noticeable, nearly akin to the level of her first mention of being abused.]
[Compared to the last couple times they'd seen each other, Bruce is much more his normal self. He's adjusted to the idea that she knows the vague outline of one of his secrets, and that it hasn't been brought up since then gives him some faith that it won't be in the future. As long as it remains unstated, he can go back to treating her like he did when they first met.
There is a lingering tell in how that conversation has changed his attitude toward her, however, in how immediately this concerns him.] Sure. I mean-- of course. What is it? Is someone after you?
[He doesn't make the immediate leap to Malicant's post, though it's a plausible enough explanation. His own history makes him think who's chasing you? instead of taking the incorporeal Death spirit as cause for alarm.]
Depends on the fuel source. [Just because he's a nuclear physicist doesn't mean he knows everything there is to know about energy sources. He'd never gotten into the energy business, anyway. But what he doesn't know, he's sure Tony does. That is his field.]
[Most people do not understand Kal's bond with his family- his biological family. They don't understand the bond he has with every single little thing from Krypton, as irrelevant as it might seem to an outsider.
They assume he's overprotective, annoying and needy. And all of that is true. But they don't know what growing up thinking he was alone, that he was the only legacy a whole species, a whole planet had left. He'd latched onto every little thing, every little memento of the planet he had been born into but never known. And then Kara had arrived.
Kara was the only other Kryptonian left, and the moment he'd met her and heard her speak Kryptonian to him- perfectly unguilded Kryptonian, with no trace of accent- he'd promised himself he'd protect her no matter what. And now she's left, and he hasn't kept his promise.
So he does what his ancestors always did, and tries to give it a scientific focus.]
[Bruce has noticed Kara's absence. He'd liked her, honestly, and he'd appreciated having someone to work with that he got along with easily and that could contribute a novel, technologically oriented perspective to the work. Admitting whatever feelings he has about those that disappear is another story.
They don't know what happens when someone vanishes, but Bruce is betting they don't go home, and that it isn't pretty. That nauseating thought is one he's been trying to avoid.
All he says when he's called is,] No, it's fine. What is it?
[Theoretically there's a few people it could be, but given what's going on right now and who he'd given a lead to just yesterday, Bruce has no doubt who it is. He's immediately focused.]
[Hayley looks panicked and makes no effort to hide it.]
Bruce, I- I made a mistake.. and I need you to hold onto something for me for right now. I promise I'll explain later, but I need you to keep it and not tell anyone you have it until we talk about it. Will you promise me? Please.
[There's no hint of deception or exaggeration in her tone. Her voice seems only to be attempting to lessen the anxiety and fear that she clearly feels right now.]
[If there's anything that'll make Bruce alarmed, it's someone he cares about-- feels responsible for-- looking panicked, especially when it's an expression he's never seen on them before. Unlike Hayley, Bruce is good at managing it. His eyes widen briefly but then he settles quickly, brain kicking into crisis management, a state he hasn't had to use much in Keeliai but is well ingrained into his nature.]
Alright, [he agrees immediately, because he knows better than anyone that sometimes you need to act before you can think.] I'll hold onto it, Hayley. Take a deep breath for me. [There's a brief pause to let her do that, indicating that he was serious about the instruction. Then, meeting her eyes through the camera and speaking soberly,] Are you safe?
[That's more important to him, far more important to him, than getting answers.]

If it wouldn't be too much trouble, I would like to ask you for your advice on a personal matter. When you have a moment, of course.
Thank you,
